Welcome to the new VanBragt.Net Virtualization website

Welcome to the completely redesigned VanBragt.Net Virtualization website. After several years it was time for a change. The website has been moved from Mambo to Joomla, a complete new design is set-up, content is re-organized, social media is integrated and a new URL is introduced.

A new URL was necessary, because the website is already covering for years a lot more than SBC (Server Based Computing) only. Together with the URL change, also the name officially changed to VanBragt.Net Virtualization. All current links to the articles will be automatically re-directed to the new URL, so you don’t have to change your Favorites or links to website directly (although I will appreciate if you change the links). Also remember to change your RSS feed to the new URL, the old RSS URL is redirected, but I advise to use the new URL.

With the new URL and changed name I expect to continue the support the community better and offer the content in an even more attractive way.

Love to know how the new look and feel and functionality is working for you and send your comments if something is not in place right now. Although I tried to check every bit, it is still possible that something is not working or not shown in the right way. I know the fonts are not similar on all pages, but unfortunate this is not easy to fix caused by the migration from Mambo to Joomla.

Hope you like the new style and will visit VanBragt.Net Virtualization on a regularly basis.

DUCUG 2012-1

Today our first Dutch Citrix User Group event took place. After a short introduction by Edwin Houben ( our leader of the pact ) Andres van Wingerden of Citrix started the first presentation.

The session was about the future of Citrix and Andres kindly asked not to communicate the content of the session.  It's really cool that Citrix shares such information on our first event, but logically I can not blog about this session.

Dutch Citrix User Group launched

More than two years ago I met Edwin Houben to start-up a Dutch Citrix User Group. We had good ideas, but a lack of time and resources we never got the chance to really get it going on.  In October 2011 the Dutch Citrix User Group was restarted with a brainstorm session with logically Edwin and five other great guys (Kees Baggerman, Ingmar Verheij, Remko Weijnen, Jon Jager and Barry Schiffer). We restarted the Dutch Citrix User Group (DUCUG) after several successful launches of Citrix User Groups (CUGS) in nearby countries.

E2E VC London 2011 Day 2

Day two of E2E VC started for me with a presentation of Aidan Finn about Hyper-V in Windows 8. He started with the increased scalability (cluster/host/VM maximum possibilities), followed by the features (hyper-v replica [disaster discovery], bitlocker and HA, Live Migration separated from Failover Clustering, RemoteFX via WAN, Virtual fibre channel adapter, guest NUMA). Aidan continued in more detail about this feature, starting with Hyper-V replica.

Citrix Synergy EU 2011 Day 1

The day started for me with BYO and the virtual workplace (Nirvana or Neverland) session by Rene Vester, Claudio Rodriguez, Jim Moyle, Gabe Knuth, Andrew Wood and Chris Rogers.  The session started with a quick check which of the attendees are using BYO, followed by the experience and opinion of the presenters. This lead to a discussion what BYO brings and cons are. Also why using BYO pops up: is it costs or user satisfaction. Personally I think Andrew really hit the points several times why BOY is not easy, but also Claudio has some really good arguments.

Configuring XenApp 6 Session TimeOuts GPO

In the progress to install and configure Terminal Server fully unattended the configuration of session time out values was not delivered standard. With the release of Windows 2003 there were standard RDP policies available, fine for Windows Terminal Servers only but fatal for servers with a Citrix SBC solution (won't mention all the names here anymore) on it. See one of my first articles ever on this topic here. Don't forget this still applies to all current versions of Windows and Citrix. In those days we used a custom ADM template to configure Citrix ICA and MS RDP session time outs; one of the most popular was the True Control Template.

Citrix Technology Information Exchange 2011

On the 23rd of June 2011 Citrix Benelux organized for the first time (as far as I know) the Citrix Technology Information Exchange (CiTIE), which was a technical event on invitation only basis. I personally like the event a lot, there were good sessions and I really knew a lot of people, so many to talk and discuss during the day. The day exists of 4 slots of three parallel sessions. In this blog you will find my experiences of that day.

NGN Citrix Day 2011

On the 13th of April 2011 the first Citrix Day of the NGN was held. The NGN is a Dutch association mainly for system administrators and IT Professionals. The Citrix Day was visited by about 200 people, so for a first event this was a good result. I was available as an Ask an Expert person. Unfortunate there was not a specific spot arranged, so we were just between the attendees. Probably this caused that I only got a few questions to answer (the asked questions were good by the way). This gave me enough room to visit most of the sessions given my good Dutch presenters. My experiences of this day are written down in this blog.
